Community Outreach
The project grew out of a simple idea: using technology to bring people closer together. The robot is designed to roam through Riverdale and nearby neighborhoods, share community news, promote local events, and highlight small businesses. The goal is simply to help strengthen the sense of connection in the community and make local activities easier for everyone to discover.
It began when I wanted to help promote the teen theater program at the Riverdale Y. Instead of relying only on posters or social media, I thought it would be fun and helpful to create a friendly mobile robot that could tell people about upcoming shows as it moved around the neighborhood. I brought the idea to a small group of friends, organized the work, and led the effort to design, build, and program the robot from scratch.
We’re building the robot as a community service initiative, and a public GoFundMe page is currently being prepared so neighbors can follow the project and support it if they’d like.
I hope the robot will grow into a long-term community partner — a helpful messenger, a small source of local pride, and a reminder of what young people can make when they combine creativity, teamwork, and a desire to give back.
